The reason behind this, is that it processes surgical and biopsy materials that often carry unique information about diseases or ailment, as mistakes are not allowed in the handling of these valuable and unique materials. Our company specialises in matters of the lymphatic, gastrointestinal and urogenital systems. Our study is concentrated in these areas, always in direct collaboration with our fellow clinicians, as collection of clinical information is necessary and cross-examination between laboratory findings is continuous. If a typical histological examination is found to be insufficient for a proper diagnosis, the pathologist &#8211; in direct communication with the referring clinician \u2013 will order more specialized tests, usually of histochemical and immunohistochemical nature. All three pathologists of the Laboratory of Histopathology have extensive qualifications, thorough experience, and are experts in their field, while the three technologists are responsible for optimal and timely material processing, machine maintenance, and appropriate consumable preservation.&#8221; font_size=&#8221;lg:18&#8243; line_height=&#8221;1.62&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Department of Histopathology performs:<\/p>\n<h6>A) Classical histological tests:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>Histological test of biopsy specimens, fine needle punctures (FNA), and surgical preparations of all organs and tissues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>B) Special histological tests:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>In addition to the standard tissue treatment, special histochemical staining is performed, as well as in situ immunological tests (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) of paraffin and refrigerant sections, aiming on the complete identification of the underlying diseases and to further study prognostic and predictive markers in malignant neoplasms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>C) Molecular analysis of biopsy material:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>The paraffin-embedded tissue can be examined by the Molecular Diagnostics department of the center, using molecular processes, only after the exact location that is based on histological criteria has been chosen by the department\u2019s pathologist. A typical example of this approach is the molecular detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervical biopsy materials, which have previously been examined by the pathologist, and the presence of HPV lesions has been confirmed.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">In addition, in histological sections the correct concentration of tumor cells is evaluated, so as to select the location of material for the study of biomarkers, and therefore determine the type of anti-cancer treatment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>D) Special investigation of spontaneous miscarriage material:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>After spontaneous miscarriage, a specialized examination on the endometrial scraping material is performed. The approach is completed using immunohistochemical and histological methods, and final results are given by the pathologist based on the reported history. B) Special histological tests: In addition to the standard tissue treatment, special histochemical staining is performed, as well as in situ immunological tests (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) of paraffin and refrigerant sections, aiming on the complete identification of the underlying diseases and to further study prognostic and predictive markers in malignant neoplasms. C) Molecular analysis of biopsy material: The paraffin-embedded tissue can be examined by the Molecular Diagnostics department of the center, using molecular processes, only after the exact location that is based on histological criteria has been chosen by the department\u2019s pathologist. A typical example of this approach is the molecular detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervical biopsy materials, which have previously been examined by the pathologist, and the presence of HPV lesions has been confirmed.
